This elegant small walnut desk, made at the end of the 19th century in the pure Henri II style, is distinguished by its rich sculpted ornamentation of floral scrolls, delicately curled foliage, and finely modelled grotesques that enliven its frieze with Renaissance vigour. The frieze conceals a large drawer. Its baluster legs, carefully turned, rest on robust twisted columns whose regular spirals testify to a mastered artisanal know-how. These columns are joined by an H-shaped stretcher, itself sculpted and punctuated by a central finial, providing stability and architectural elegance to the whole. The top, simple and noble, highlights the warmth of the walnut, while the drawer front reveals a profuse decoration that gives the piece a remarkable sculptural presence. The whole forms a refined piece of furniture, typical of the historicist creations of the late 19th century, where the heritage of the French Renaissance is reinterpreted with splendour and precision. In good condition after restoration in our cabinetmaking workshop. Waxed finish. 620V.
