Originating from research conducted at the Hochschule für Gestaltung in Ulm as early as 1954, this stool was designed by Max Bill, Hans Gugelot, and Paul Hildinger as a versatile tool, adaptable to the various uses of the school. The version presented here, equipped with a drawer, corresponds to an evolution of the model developed in the early 1960s during a workshop. Its construction relies on the use of simple and standardised materials: particle board for the sides and the top, turned wood for the crossbar. An integrated drawer beneath the top adds a storage function without altering the simplicity of the structure. Serving as a seat, small table, and storage module, this object directly reflects the philosophy of the Ulm school: a functional, economical, and reproducible design, stripped of any superfluous elements, where the form arises from the use and the method of production. Edition: produced by HfG Ulm, circa 1962.
