Set of 2 chairs at the cathedral style gothic late nineteenth. The neo-gothic chair at the cathedral takes its name from its high straight and vertical back finished in pinnacles, fleurons and bell towers. In the nineteenth century, from 1820, the romantic movement reinterpreted the rich and sumptuous architectural period of the late middle ages, including the flamboyant gothic style churches. The backs of the chairs are openwork with windows and pointed arches, like the stained glass windows of cathedrals. The legs form columns with cut or twisted sides, the seat is padded and has been renovated with a red fabric. From 1840, the seat at the cathedral, richly carved in the taste of viollet-le-duc is mainly in natural oak or walnut wood. This type of furniture will be a resounding success until the last quarter of the nineteenth century for living room furniture. We also speak of troubadour style for nineteenth century furniture freely imagined from the gothic architecture of the fifteenth century. These chairs are in good condition, they have some traces of wear of course related to use and age, some worm holes are also present, they have benefited from a treatment as a precaution. Total height 107 cm. Width 48 cm. Length 38 cm. Seat height 34 cm. Width " " " " 46 cm. Depth " " 20 cm. Weight 5, 900kg the chair.
