Art Deco pedestal column in wood with geometric marquetry, France, 1920s
This architectural pedestal column reflects the European Art Deco movement of the 1920s. Built in solid wood and selected veneers, the structure combines medium-toned oak surfaces with inlays in fine woods and dark ebonised fillets. The rectangular top platform features a central panel with a pronounced linear grain, framed by four miter-cut oak sections and finished with a dark moulded perimeter edge. The central shaft is crafted with a subtle widening towards the middle area, narrowing towards the upper and lower ends to form a defined geometric profile. Two horizontal ebonised bands divide the support into balanced sections, corresponding to the dark fillets running along the vertical edges. Below the shaft, a stepped base with a geometric marquetry border stabilises the piece on four low rectangular feet at the corners. Due to its contained proportions and architectural presence, the piece integrates naturally into an entrance hall, a living room corner, a private library or a gallery space. It is designed as a support for displaying sculptures, bronze figures, busts or collectible ceramic pieces. Height 68 cm (26.8 in), Width 25 cm (9.8 in), Depth 18 cm (7.1 in). Condition: There is wear on the top surface; see the images.
