Decorative ceramic plate signed by Roger Picault, Vallauris. Roger Picault is one of the ceramists associated with Vallauris, a major centre of French ceramics in the mid-20th century. His work embodies a free and graphic spirit, where simple forms become very expressive decorative supports. Animal motifs, particularly stylised fish, are characteristic of this Vallauris production, which is both decorative, popular, and full of whimsy. This plate features a design of an elongated fish, rendered in emerald green, brown, and beige tones, against a light speckled and crackled background. The drawing, intentionally stylised, plays with dynamic lines and geometric details, particularly in the body of the fish and its fins. The edge, highlighted with a green and brown line, beautifully frames the composition. The piece retains all the charm of Vallauris ceramics, with a strong decorative presence and a lovely 1950s spirit. In its used condition, it shows signs of wear (see photo). Dimensions: Diameter: 24cm. Signed RP for Roger Picault.
