Illum Wikkelsø, Danish designer of the V11 armchair

Illum Wikkelsø (1919-1999) is one of the great Danish post-war cabinetmakers, trained at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Copenhagen. A designer for Niels Eilersen, Søren Willadsen, Skive Møbelfabrik and CFC Silkeborg, he signed from the 1950s a production of lounge armchairs where teak, rosewood and patinated leather composed an accomplished Scandinavian comfort. His V11 armchair and High Back leather chair remain the most iconic pieces of a Danish comfort signature, halfway between Wegner and Juhl.
