Vico Magistretti, master of Italian obviousness

Vico Magistretti (1920-2006) is one of the fathers of modern Italian design. A Milanese architect trained at the Politecnico, he signed for more than fifty years for Cassina, Artemide, De Padova, O-Luce and Oluce pieces whose apparent simplicity hides absolute conceptual rigour. The Eclisse lamp (1965), Atollo lamp (1977), Selene chair in moulded plastic, Carimate chair: all objects that became world classics. Triple Compasso d'Oro winner, Magistretti embodies the very idea of Italian 'obvious beauty'.

The Eclisse lamp for Artemide, the Atollo lamp for Oluce and the Carimate chair remain Vico Magistretti's most iconic pieces. Italian design classics to find second-hand for those who love an object that thinks in silence.
