Roger Landault, French school furniture turned chic
Roger Landault (1919-1983) is one of the French designers of the Reconstruction whose production was long perceived as utilitarian before being rediscovered by collectors in the 2000s. Specialising in school and young family furniture, he designed for Sentou then ABC chairs, desks, shelves and bunk beds in light wood and lacquered metal that equipped French children's bedrooms during the post-war boom. His signature? Precise functionality, pop colours, and an economy of means that today make these pieces cult.
Roger Landault children's desks, bentwood beech chairs and shelves for Sentou and ABC remain the designer's most recognisable pieces. French vintage furniture to find for those wanting a Sixties school signature now rare and valued.
