Finn Juhl, sculptor of the Danish armchair

Finn Juhl (1912-1989) turned the armchair into sculpture. A Danish interior architect, trained at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Copenhagen, he broke in the 1940s with the Scandinavian functionalist tradition by designing seats where the cushion floats above the wooden structure, as if suspended. His Chieftain Chair (1949), 45 armchair (1945) and Pelican Chair have become absolute references of sculptural Danish design. Edited by Niels Vodder then by Onecollection, his furniture reaches dizzying prices at auction.

The Chieftain Chair, 45 armchair and Pelican Chair remain Finn Juhl's most iconic pieces. Scandinavian vintage seats to find for those wanting a sculptural signature of Danish design, one of the most valued on the market.
