Charles & Ray Eames, the couple who redesigned America
He was an architect, she was a painter. Together, Charles (1907-1978) and Ray Eames (1912-1988) spent forty years inventing a certain idea of modern daily life. In their Venice Beach studio, the American couple sketched, experimented, tested: moulded plywood, fiberglass, steel wire, aluminium. The furniture that came out of it changed America, then the world. Every piece signed Eames carries that rare signature: an engineer's rigour wrapped in an artist's joy.
The Lounge Chair (1956), edited by Herman Miller, remains their crowning achievement: a modern club armchair in leather and rosewood that replaced the very idea of comfort. Alongside it, the DSW, DSR and DAR chairs (the famous shells) decline the Eames spirit in every register. Vintage pieces to hunt with eyes closed.
