Jacques Blin, the ceramist of stylised birds
Jacques Blin (1920-1995) spent his life engraving birds into clay. A French ceramist based in Vincennes, he developed from the 1950s onwards a universe recognisable among all: stylised animal silhouettes, motifs scratched with a point, blue, green and brown glazes applied to vases, lamps and dishes. A brutalist and lyrical ceramic at once, that meets the work of Capron, Buthod-Garçon or Ruelland, and remains one of the most identifiable French signatures of the post-war years.
Ovoid vases, bottle-base lamps, dishes with animal motifs: Blin's production is varied but always recognisable by its Nordic palette and engraved line. Jacques Blin prices confirm this ceramic's place in the French vintage decoration market.
