Eero Aarnio, creator of the Ball Chair

Eero Aarnio (born 1932) is one of the Finnish designers who tipped Scandinavian furniture into pop. Trained at the Central Institute of Industrial Arts in Helsinki, he signed in 1963 the Ball Chair (or Globe Chair) for Asko: a sphere in white lacquered fibreglass, set on a chromed base, where the user isolates themselves as in a space capsule. The Pastil Chair (1967), Bubble Chair (1968) and Tomato Chair would follow, forming one of the most iconic families of Space Age design. A joyful signature that has never stopped being edited.

The Ball Chair, Pastil Chair and Bubble Chair Asko remain Eero Aarnio's most iconic pieces. Finnish vintage furniture to find for those wanting a Space Age signature, now an absolute reference of 1960s pop design.
