This is a rustic little handmade bench which is perfect for a hallway or kitchen, it is rather petite and is a country style piece which is practical and full of character. The bench is simply made from elm and pine, it dates to the early 1800s and would have been used in a church for wardens and bellringers. The bench can seat two people and has a narrow seat, simple open backrest and shaped supports. There is an enamelled number to either end and a narrow sign to the back rest which is quite aged looking. The bench has a narrow foot rest which has a name scratched into the wood on the right hand side, a nice piece of historical graffiti from times gone by. The wood is dark and very well aged with a lot of character. CONDITION The structural condition is fairly solid and sturdy but there are gaps, cracks and areas of damage that the give the bench a lot of character. There is a chunk of wood missing along the back of the backrest, as shown. There are shrinkage gaps to the panel of the backrest and old paint to the lower parts of the side supports. The wood is generally very aged looking and rustic. MEASUREMENTS height to top of back rest- 94.5cms height to seat- 46cms width- 117cms seat depth- 30cms seat width- 110cms depth front to back-32.5cms The measurements are taken at the widest points. The price quoted is for shipping mainland U.K only, please contact us if you live outside this area, many thanks.
