Splendid anduze vase decorated with garlands of flowers, the medallion indicates that it is signed andré caulet, around 1860. Accident at the pedestal, 2 splinters on the collar, garlands and medallions intact, ginnings of time. High: 65cm - diam: 55cm. It was at the end of the XIII century that anduze seems to have specialized in the making of vases that still make it famous today. Henry and jean gautier are the oldest attested craftsmen of this tradition. Between the XIX and xx, the success is confirmed, the number of pharmacies multiplies and consequently that of medallions identifying each workshop. Such a production was intended for the rich owners of estates, gardens, parks, orange and lemon trees were planted and stored in the orangery to avoid frost during the cold season. The success of the anduze vases exceeded and still goes far beyond the limits of the eastern languedoc. They are found everywhere in the south and they were exported to the capital. Despite a frost sensitivity that makes them flaking, there are still beautiful series in many castles. At the end of the XIX and XX century, the manufacture of horticultural vases continues in montpellier but the source of inspiration is from anduze and this is all the more understandable as andré caulet, established in montpellier during the 1850s was born in anduze. He made until his death around 1866 garden vases signed with his name, in the manner of anduze.
