Known as bamileke stools, sometimes called bird nests or doughnuts, they were traditionally used only for special ceremonial seats by the bamileke tribe of cameroon. The woodworkers of the tribe would build them for auspicious occasions, with the largest and best reserved strictly for the use of the king. The intricate woven patterns carved in wood represent the web of the earth spider, a symbol of wisdom. The bamileke people believe that the web of the earth spider is also a link between this world and that of our ancestors; the sculpture of the canvas in these pieces allows missing loved ones to be connected to these ceremonies in the mind. Traditional bamileke "king" stools from cameroon. These unique pieces can be used as a side table, coffee table or stool. Color: the main colours available are natural, white, black and brown. Custom colours are also available. Please feel free to contact us to discuss options.
