Coat hanger 1930

This dark brown coloured coat hanger is believed to be produced by Thonet in one of their factories in former Czechoslovakia around 1930. Attributed to Thonet. There is no manufacturer label visible on the hange but we can find this particular piece in Thonet catalogue and also it has some detailing and the type of screws that were typical for Thonet furniture at the time. Coat hangers used to be an absolutely necessary addition to any household. There were many types, from very decorative organic forms to more modern and simple shapes. This particular piece combines the traditional craft of bentwood with the rather modern approach of using minimal forms and shapes. The main middle part is effortlessly hold by four bended legs with a cycle for holding umbrellas on their top. The upper part has got five c shaped hangers for holding the coats. Overall due to the simplicity of it’s form and the quality of the wood, this coat hanger is as modern now as it was a hundred years ago. The coat hanger has been recently completely refurbished to its former glory. Our experienced craftsman has carried the restoration to the highest standard, reviving the beautiful natural pattern on the all parts which were subsequently finished by hand in shellac varnish. There is absolutely minimal wear and tear gained over the years and in general the coat hanger is in great vintage condition.
