Beautiful, well-preserved version of the famous coffee table "Spider" by Carlo de Carli, Italy, 1950s. Most of us know this famous table and if not, we hope you enjoy it! Carlo de Carli is one of the first to have used this playful montage (a hand with 9 fingers), for a coffee table. Later, Giuseppe Scapinelli, his Italian colleague working from Brazil, designed a similar Spider coffee table, but I think it's fair to say that Carlo de Carli was the first. (search, it's very similar) Nine legs, don't let them fool you, a spider has eight, but I think an odd number is prettier in the division of spaces between the legs. Irregularity is often better for the eye. The table has three (!) tapered legs pointing to the side, held together in the middle by a wooden disc that presents a beautiful work of detail and from which the arms leave to hold the glass top. The arms have beautiful straight and rounded shapes and are positioned very elegantly, almost like a French waiter holding his serving tray with his fingers. The wood of the table has been very nicely coloured over the last 70 years and has been lacquered recently, giving it a very crisp and fresh look with lots of character. The glass is still original (5mm crystal glass) and shows very nicely the blue / green of the sides, as we are used to Fontana Arte lamps for example: high quality glass. (there is a very small shard in the glass, but it is not visible if you place it on a finger) Last but not least: adding a spider table, or any other pointed shape, in your interior is always a good idea (to balance rounded and soft shapes). Try!
