Superb minimalist floor lamp, model st84, designed by johan niegeman in 1957 for artiforte. Johan niegeman was a very important figure for the development of modern design in the netherlands. From 1926-1930 he was working and teaching at the bauhaus and later he was teaching his functionalist approach in the netherlands to many dutch midcentury designers like friso kramer and kho liang ie. This modernist lamp was awarded at the triennale milaan 1957 and won a diplome d’honneur at expo58 in brussels. It was one of the most expensive lights made by artiforte and these lamps were all handmade in very small numbers. Very rare nowadays. It has a grey and black lacquered base, a white lucite diffuser and a tl light inside for warm and equal light when lit. This architectural lamp is like a light sculpture. The lamp is in very good original condition. Only little traces of use.
