Description
Spiny lobster. By mathurin méheut. Earthenware plate. 1932. 23 cm. 5 pieces (3 large illustrations and 2 small) For collection. Excellent condition. A bit of history... (source museum of brittany) In 1932, mathurin méheut made six drawings for the plates of the prunier restaurant in paris. The barnagaud-prunier family has several restaurants in paris and london, all renowned for their cuisine based on fish and shellfish. The decagonal earthenware plates are made by villeroy and boch in mettlach. The decorations are marine animals: lobster, st. Peter, sea urchins, sardines, sturgeon and conger. They are accompanied by stylized patterns of shells and geometric patterns on the marli of the plates. In his compositions, méheut chose to decenter the monochrome blue décor, thus giving dynamism.
