Ponder. Size: 57 X 47.5 cm (including frame) Oil on board. A brilliantly executed and emotive mid century portrait, executed in oil onto board. The painting presents an interior setting, where a young female figure is sitting on a chair with her hands clasped together in front of her. Although the artist has intentionally chosen not to paint her facial details, there is sense of calm, and stillness. She sits quietly, comfortably, with a quality of timelessness. The palette is soft and tender, perfectly suited to the mood of the sitter and the scene. We know not who the figure is, but there is a palpable sense of familiarity. The painting emits a warm glow, with its shades of mellow yellow, green and orange capturing the mood and homeliness of the setting.
