Gerbino•vallauris. Description. Terracotté vase, mosaic of mixed lands signed jean gerbino for vallauris. Excellent condition. The technique: the particular process called "gerbino" combines different techniques of mosaic and neriage (mixture of colored earths). The clays of earthenware are colored in the mass by oxides. These clays are assembled flat to form drawings. The plates are shaped in molds. In nerialization, the variability of land set-aside is a major issue. This shrinkage is managed by the addition of oxides that establish a balance between the different colors, provided that the humidity of the different clays is maintained as uniform as possible. Extremely slow drying is required. After drying, the piece is baked a first time, covered with a colorless enamel and then baked a second time. Aurore's coup ♡ Jean gerbino (1876-1966) born in sicily, and after setting up his workshop in algeria, came in 1919 to vallauris, where he worked at massier. Then, he set up his own business and worked on the development of his very particular mosaic process.
