Sleek, businesslike, modern and timeless design classic! When in the early 60s the dutch "gelderland" is looking for a connection with the market for modern furniture, according to tradition they decide to contact the young designer rob parry. He is also known for the red mailbox that can be found in the dutch street scene for years. After a series of designs, according to various sources, the basis for the "lotus armchair" was created, which was included in the delivery program not much later and would become a true design icon. At its introduction, it is one of the most strikingly designed seating furniture of its time, the bold step to go for minimalist "dutch design" turns out to be a hit and the chair is soon for sale in various countries. In the netherlands, the chair is quickly seen as a common piece of furniture in (semi) publicly accessible buildings, such as town halls and government offices, but you also often came across the chair in libraries and theaters. Over the years, various variations on the theme "lotus" have arisen, almost all of which end up in modern interiors, this example has a chrome-plated iron base, wenge wooden frame and upholstered armrests. This particular example, from the first owner, has been cherished in all those years, the iron frame is still very nice in condition, the wood completely original. The upholstery including cushions and construction has been completely renewed in 2023 and looks more beautiful than it ever was. The very best foam, the most beautiful fabric, and the best leather with experience with specific model, have made this armchair a true art object. The fabric is keymer jump color number 16. Jump is a fire retardant and dirt-repellent upholstery fabric.
