Wedding chest

This beautiful wedding chest, originally from alsace, was hand painted in a colorful floral pattern on the top, front and sides, only one bird was painted in the pattern on the front of the chest, the back was left plain. The top is flat and has a pattern of raised dots included in the design, these are painted to look like nails. The interior has two smaller compartments where candles would have been kept. The inside of the lid was also painted in a simple abstract design on a red background. The trunk is supported by block legs and has two large iron carrying handles at each end.
