Louis Vuitton trunk in black and beige striped canvas Circa 1870

This is a very old Vuitton trunk that I bought in a specialty store. His famous striped beige and black bear witness to the 1870s time preceding the appearance of the logo well known LV found on well latest trunks. It should be noted the presence of the LV initials on the sides near the handles. The clasps are simple, not yet engraved. The trunk shows the so called "stripped" canvas. It must be said that the original locks and accessories were not adorned with LV as it was not yet a company trademark. At the time these trunks are very simple and elegant, and didn t have more elaborate signatures nor the artwork of later trunks. They were separate due to the fact that their tops were flat constructed as opposed to the dome shaped trunks of the time to allow for better stacking and storage. This must be one of earliest trunks sold! Inside we find a piece of label certainly giving the address where it was bought. Underneath one can read ancient year logo "Paris Street Scribe Louis Vuitton" which confirms its origin. It is in very good structural condition, sturdy side handles.
