Table 135 bis by André Simard - Furniture Edition T.V. 1953 - France Cherry veneer tray. Below the tray in cherry and mahogany plated. Black lay metal. Dimensions: H. 73 x L. 100 x P. 100 cm Good state of origin. Plateau restored with wax oil. Satin-waxed finish. André Simard is arguably the least known designer of the "Young Wolves" generation. Coming from the same promotion as Pierre Guariche, André Monpoix and Alain Richard, he graduated in 1949 from the Decorative Arts of Paris and frequented as they did the most avant-garde workshops (René Gabriel, Jacques Dumond) and publishers (T.V. Furniture, Airborne, Bobois) of the 1950s. His conceptions are of great rigour in proportions, and the result of an unceasing formal search for purity and functionalism. Table 135 bis is a remarkable example. This modernity has no age. It is out of time. Documentation extracted from Furniture and Decorations from November 1957.
