NILS KÄHLER. Rare ceiling light, Denmark, mid-20th century. Top and bottom in gilded glazed ceramic with a geometric relief pattern. White lacquered steel fixture and acrylic plastic shade. Height of the frame: approximately 41 cm. Good condition. Nils Kähler (1906-1979) was one of the sons of Herman H.C. Kähler and is best known for leading the exports of the ceramic company Herman A. Kahler Keramik, founded by his great-grandfather in 1839. With new designs and distribution models, Nils expanded Kähler's influence and popularity worldwide. Nils Kähler had a particular talent for following the design trends of the time, which is evident in his production. Although he was very enthusiastic about complex traditional pottery, the new production was characterised by much simpler patterns. He created design objects such as ashtrays, vases, carafes, and lamp bases. Made of stoneware, these bases were fired in his workshop. The colours of the salt glaze are preferred, as well as warm turquoise or gold colours, combined with raw surfaces or embossed patterns. The family business came to an end with the fourth generation of the Kähler family in 1974.
