Magnificent Large Oval Plate in Faience with Japonese/Orientalist Style. Bring an exotic and vintage touch of elegance to your table or collection with this superb large oval plate (or serving tray), beautifully decorated in the spirit of Japonism from the late 19th or early 20th century. As seen in the images, the piece features a polychrome central decoration, depicting two paradise birds with shimmering plumage (cobalt blue, green, salmon pink), nestled amidst lush vegetation of blooming peonies and flowering branches on a cream background. The marli (the border) is richly adorned with a cobalt blue frieze intertwined with fruit motifs (peaches/apples, berries) and foliage, harmoniously highlighting the poly-lobed and slightly wavy shape of the edge. Characteristics: Style: Japonese / Asian / Orientalist. Shape: Oval with slightly scalloped / poly-lobed border. Colors: Multicolored (dominant cobalt blue, powder pink, green, terracotta on an ecru/cream background) Generous dimensions: 45.5 cm × 35 cm. Height / Depth: 4 cm. Condition: Beautiful vintage overall condition. The colors remain very fresh and bright. A small chip on the underside of the border, which does not affect the sturdiness of the tray. Ideal for a stunning table presentation, as a serving dish, or simply displayed as a centerpiece or on a buffet for lovers of antique ceramics and Asian art.
