Marble or alabaster ashtray

This pretty ashtray had a surprise in store for me! I fell for its pretty colors, off-white mixed with a bit of gray and some honey-orange veins... But when I looked very closely, I realized that what I thought was orange veining was actually glue or at least a kind of resin! Is it a repair by a previous owner or is it original, a repair, solidification or filling of hollow veins by the manufacturer so as not to lose a pretty piece of marble, I don't know. And to tell the truth, I don't care, I find that these two colored veins nicely enhance the color of the whole, that it gives it a particularity that suits it well! To be adopted with full knowledge of the facts; ) the whole has been polished, the upper face is very smooth, the sides keep the vertical marks of the tools hollowed into the material. It is made of marble or alabaster, I cannot distinguish these two stones for sure. It is in good general condition, very solid, no chips, just a few abrasions and chips on the edges and traces of glue, colorless this one, which can only be seen very closely and under a certain angle of light but which can be felt a little to the touch. It measures 12 cm on each side and is 2.5 cm thick. A piece of fabric is glued under its base.
