Description
Brutalist style table lamp, "Building Skyscraper" shape approaching cubism, designed by the Italian designer Gaetano Sciolari around 1960. Qualitative creation in chrome steel and brushed brass. 'Sciolari' label under the base. Beautiful original condition, use of E27 type screw-in bulb, switch and electricity ok, delivered without lampshade. Biography: Angelo Gaetano Sciolari (1927-1994) was the owner of Sciolari Lighting and designer for the Italian manufacturer Stilnovo in the 1950s. There he created a series of multi-light chandeliers evoking futuristic visions of the emerging space age, the "SPUTNIK" chandeliers. Throughout the 1960s, 70s and 80s, his creations were in high demand and were imported to the American market by Lightolier & Progress Lighting and to Europe by Boulanger (Belgium), Mazzega (Italy)... During this same period, his lighting fixtures appeared regularly on television and in the cinema due to their luxurious, futuristic or Hollywood Regency style appearance. Certain forms will also have similarities with the work of Paul Evans or Curtis Jere. Despite his death in 1994, Sciolari's creations have gained popularity and demand, becoming sought-after collectibles and fetching a high retail price. We will note some known series: The Geometric series, the Habitat series, the Cultura series and the Futura series. Famed interior designer Veere Grenney often uses Sciolari, having recently updated a house designed by John Nash Round, the architect of Buckingham Palace and much of Regency Lond
