Kpelie mask carved in wood, originating from the senufo people of ivory coast. This type of mask is used during initiation and funeral rites, where it represents the spirit of the ancestors and accompanies young initiates in their passage to adulthood. This mask has a double-horned structure, a narrow mouth, and a forehead decorated with geometric patterns, typical elements of senufo aesthetics. The snakes carved on the top of the mask often symbolize spiritual power and protection. A wooden ring was originally attached to one of the ears, a recurring detail on kpelie masks. 🔹 note: the base of the right ear is partially missing. The wooden ring initially attached to this ear is missing. The interior of the mask has a beautiful patina of use, confirming its authenticity and antiquity. Apart from the chips visible on the edges, particularly at the ears and base, the whole remains well preserved. Dimensions: height: 30 cm width: 18 cm condition: fair condition with missing parts on the right ear and the wooden ring, as well as visible chips on the edges.
