A large original aquatint depicting an old beggar on a market in morbihan signed manuel robbe inside and outside the plate and numbered 34 titled on the back slight foxing period: ca. 1908 beautiful frame under glass (small accidents) dimensions: framed 88 X 107 cm; at sight 45 X 63 cm collection on site desired, cocolis shipping possible good condition ref adequantik 2311296 emmanuel robbe (1872-1936), french artist. After studying at the lycée louis le grand, he became a student at the julian academy, then entered the paris school of fine arts. Robbe quickly became an accomplished printmaker specializing in the aquatint technique. He regularly exhibits in the salons of the society of french artists. In 1900, during the universal exhibition, his work was awarded the bronze medal, for an engraving entitled summer (colored etching). During his life as an artist, manuel robbe produced many aquatints, drypoints, etchings and some advertising posters as well as numerous unique works (oils on canvas, watercolors or pastels). An accomplished sportsman, he was captain of the beaux-arts fencing team during the paris interprofessional championship in 1912. During the 1914-1918 war, he enlisted in the aviation as a pilot and was awarded the war cross with citations for his heroic feats of arms. The works of manuel robbe are a moving testimony to the lives of the women and men of his time.
