H.m. Talma [pseudonym of henri manuel, or his studio] - mademoiselle le guevel of the théâtre de l'athénée. Veiled hat (lewis house in paris (?)). Large photography, silver print, signed "h.m. Talma" in pencil lower right. Photo dimensions: 220 X 150 mm. Margin dimensions: 300 X 240 mm. Condition: lower left corner slightly uneven, perfect condition otherwise, very well contrasted shot. We can name the model with certainty thanks to an advertisement in the "fashion supplement" of the "new york herald tribune" - july number - 1921; review found at the same time as the lot. Concerning h.m. Talma, no information circulates about this photographer, not even in the institutions that keep his photographs, but it is a pseudonym of the famous portrait photographer henri manuel or his studio; pseudo that he would have used for his work in foreign fashion magazines (h.m. Could also hide the initials of the latter); the two names of these two photographers are very often associated in magazines. This photograph was also found in a fairly large batch of fashion shots, always representing the same model (most certainly his personal archives); part of these photos is signed "henri manuel" and the other "h.m. Talma", both having the same style, the same backgrounds and the same process of printing and presentation.
