These two dining chairs were originally designed by the gebüder thonet company in 1898, and could be found in thonet sales catalogues as model number 221. These particular pieces are believed to be produced by the thonet company in one of their factories in austria around 1910. The chair design combines the thonet trademark craftmanship together with the soft elegance of the late 19th century furniture design. The slightly tampered legs are a lovely example of that skilful attention to detail. Every chair was designed in a way that enabled all the pieces to be transported individually from the factory and then asembled together before being put up for sale. This way thonet could save a great amount on transport costs but this process also ensured that the quality of the products were preserved as they continued to be sold around the world. Due to the elegance of it’s form and the quality craftmanship, these chairs are as charming now as they were over hundred years ago. The chairs are in great vintage condition with a beautiful patina. Both chairs have been recently completely refurbished to their former glory. Our experienced craftsman has carried the restoration to the highest standard, reviving the beautiful natural pattern of both the seat and the backrest which were subsequently finished by hand in shellac varnish.
