Antique Cobalt Blue Earthenware Jug With Enamelled Decor

Period: ca. 1880-1920 this superb cobalt blue earthenware jug is decorated with very fine and detailed arabesque designs applied with gold paint and glaze. These designs make up the lower and upper friezes. The rim is finished with a beaded frieze adding to the high quality appearance of this item. The jug has a large square handle and is a practical size for modern use. This piece is typical of the late 19th century victorian/napoleon III eras in england and france. There are no makers marks but is similar to pieces made by gibson and son in england or keller & guerin of luneville, france. Condition: good. Serviceable. Minor signs of use and age. A small glaze flaw towards the base (this is not a chip). Dimensions: 21.5cm high, 16cm wide across the handle, 12.5cm deep.
