Renée Halpern, painter of various subjects. At the age of eighteen, she came from Poland to Paris to study decorative arts and attended the Ranson Academy. She mingled with Marquet, Soutine, Marie Laurencin, Dufy, and Masson. After getting married, she stopped painting for seven years, but encouraged by Francis Carco, with whom she formed a friendship, she returned to painting and held her first exhibition in 1954. She then exhibited very regularly in Paris, as well as in New York (1960), Tel Aviv (Helena Rubinstein Museum, 1968), a country where she made frequent stays. In 1973, during the inauguration of the Claude Bernard Museum, in the birthplace of the scientist, in Saint-Julien (Rhône), she presented a series of canvases inspired by the life and writings of the great physician. After a brief abstract period, Renée Halpern's work returned to free figuration. She willingly paints flowers, bouquets that feature prominently in a landscape. Her generally bright palette evokes a joy for life. She also paints landscapes, especially in Venice where she often works.
