Authentic engraving from 1870 (156 years ago). This is not a modern reproduction, but an old engraving. Subject: Norway Spruce and Pectinate Spruce. Size: 52 X 32 cm. Edition: between 1860 and 1880. Elegant vintage cream-white paper. Original central fold (typical of large atlas formats). Condition: very good, with some usual signs of age. This plate comes from a 19th-century educational botanical atlas and is illustrated with finely executed chromolithographs. The work features precise representations of plants, combining scientific accuracy with aesthetic quality. This magnificent plate presents two species of spruces in their natural environment. At the top, two majestic trees are depicted in their full stature, one tall with a robust brown trunk, the other more branched with dense foliage. The lower part details the characteristic botanical elements with cones of different shapes and sizes, as well as branches with their specific needles for each species. Texts inscribed on the engraving: Forest trees: a the Norway Spruce Abies excelsa b the Pectinate Spruce Abies pectinata. ---- This plate features a naturalistic and scientific style typical of 19th-century botanical atlases. The illustration combines encyclopaedic precision with decorative aesthetics, using colours true to reality. The detailed rendering of bark textures, foliage, and cones demonstrates a mastered chromolithography technique, characteristic of educational works of the time.
