Zoomorphic sugar bowl shell in slipware

A bit kitsch but so charming, this ceramic sugar bowl will leave no one indifferent when serving breakfast or tea, and it will certainly spark conversation! It represents a seashell in lovely shades of green, cream, and dark brown. Purchased on the Île de Ré in the 1960s, it was part of a coffee or tea set, of which unfortunately only this sugar bowl and two milk jugs, also for sale here, remain. It is a beautiful piece of craftsmanship and surely took a long time to achieve such an impressive result. However, I have not been able to ascertain the place of manufacture; these zoomorphic elements are sometimes even claimed to come from Florida or Japan! I lean more towards a French production that may have been exported to various tourist spots by the seaside. This sugar bowl is in very good condition, clean, with no cracks or chips, not even a nick. It measures approximately 12 cm in length, 10 cm in width, and 8.5 cm in height.
