Antique mahogany campaign desk with green leather top in good condition. Beautiful warm, weathered mahogany color. This is a typical campaign desk used by British officers in the English army. Origin: England. Period: Approx. 1890. Dimensions: W. 142cm, D. 75cm, H. 78cm. This type of furniture was taken along by British officers of the English army in the 19th century when they were deployed to, for example, India. They were made in two parts to facilitate easy and quick transport. The brass corners were fitted to prevent damage during transport and ensure the drawer pulls do not protrude. The idea that they could move quickly in campaigns/battles in this way was outdated around 1900. Over the years, the collection of campaign furniture belonging to high-ranking officers had grown so large that it became a whole moving operation, which was therefore no longer fast and efficient.
