This sofa belongs to the repertoire of French seating from the Louis XV period (circa 1730–1760), a time that marks the peak of the rococo style in decorative arts. It fits into the typology of mid-century sofas, intended for reception salons, where comfort and fluidity of forms take precedence over the monumentality inherited from the previous reign. The carved wooden structure, made of beech, a preferred material for seat makers, is distinguished by a fully rococo treatment. The finely executed decoration consists of shells, unfurled foliage, scrolls, and asymmetrical brackets, characteristic of the naturalistic ornamentation developed during Louis XV's reign.
