This excellent condition table lamp is indeed a rare piece of iconic design by Dutch designer Louis Christian Kalff for Philips. It is generally known as a "z lamp" due to its distinctive z shape. It is also sometimes called a "diplomat lamp" in reference to its elegant and sophisticated appearance. It was designed in the 1950s and has become a classic example of modern design of that era. It is characterized by its solid brass z-shaped frame, which gives it a unique and recognizable appearance. The black metal lampshade with a brass plate bearing the Philips logo adds a touch of sophistication to the lamp. The round opening in the shade allowed the top of the bulb to be seen, which pairs well with the use of mirrored top bulbs, creating pleasant ambient lighting. This lamp was, by me, completely de-oxidized then treated with an anti-oxidant varnish so that it retains all its original shine. Signs of wear such as minimal scratches are normal given the age of the lamp. However, it should be noted that the original electrical installation does not comply with the VDE directives in force. It must be checked and, if necessary, replaced by a professional before installation. The fact that the lamp uses an E27 LED socket/fitting is also helpful, as this means that it is compatible with a variety of bulbs available on the market (bulb not included in the package for safety reasons).
