This console table embodies the decorative spirit of the 1940s, in the style of designers Louis Süe and André Mare, iconic figures of French Art Deco. Its structured silhouette, sober and refined, combines the rigor of blackened wood with the warmth of courbaril mahogany, in a subtly orchestrated play of contrasts. The front is animated by a floral marquetry decoration in tinted wood, delicately inlaid with mother-of-pearl, evoking the stylised compositions beloved by the workshops of the Union of Modern Artists. The upper drawer, with finely chiselled brass handles, is topped by a low door that locks, decorated with a floral basket. The fluted columns elegantly rhythm the whole, highlighting the verticality of the piece and enhancing its graphic appeal. This characterful piece, suitable for use as a side table or for music, will find its place in a refined interior, for discerning enthusiasts and collectors sensitive to the blend of craftsmanship and decorative invention. Period: 1940. Excellent condition after restoration in our cabinetmaking workshop. Waxed finish on a hard base.
