Low fireplace armchair

This original armchair is attributed to Charles Dudouyt (1885-1946), placing it in time and space as a production from the first half of the 20th century. Made of straw for the seat (in excellent condition overall, including the caning), and in lightly tinted natural wood, this surprisingly low armchair (seat height of 30 cm) rests on a turned cylindrical base, slightly conical. The two armrests at the front also serve as legs, extending to adjust each with a bar encased at the front, in a small sphere (which also echoes the one that finishes the rear base), and at the back directly into the conical leg. Rarely signed, the pieces that come from this new workshop nonetheless bear the artist's mark. This so-called fireside chair is no exception, and its lines alone signify the product.
