Superb oil on panel from the first half of the 20th century, depicting a bucolic and lush countryside landscape. The work beautifully captures light through a cloudy and contrasting sky, typical of the artist's post-impressionist touch. This painting is doubly authenticated: it bears the handwritten signature "O. Madrigali" at the bottom left of the composition, as well as an official metal plaque riveted to the original frame. About the artist: Olynthe Madrigali (1887-1950) is a renowned landscape painter (notably for his Corsican and Orientalist works), a student of the famous painter Paul Saïn. His works regularly appear in auction house catalogs. Condition and characteristics: • Origin: France • Period: 1920s-1940s • Materials: Oil on wood panel (or strong canvas board) • Frame: Sold with its original gilded stucco frame with twisted decoration, which perfectly enhances the work. The back of the painting is sound and period. • General condition: Very good vintage condition. The painting has retained all the freshness of its colors. The frame shows a superb patina of time with very slight signs of use that attest to its authenticity (see photos). A very beautiful charming object, ideal for adding a touch of classic elegance and authenticity to a contemporary interior or a country house.
