Rare and refined period piece (circa 1880) Superb reading table representative of the Victorian Aesthetic Movement (late 19th century), a period marked by the influence of Japonisme and the lightness of lines. Features & Details: Top surface: Decorated with fine and complex asymmetrical marquetry, typical of Japonisme, depicting branches and leaves of chestnut and iris flowers. Base: Crafted with graceful arches and classic tapered turned legs, joined by a fine X-shaped stretcher, adorned with a central bulbous turning. Middle shelf: Storage shelf with a central floral marquetry, surrounded by a magazine rack with fine and elegant balusters. Style & Period: England / Europe, circa 1880. Condition: Very good condition of use and preservation. The marquetry is clear, and the wood has a beautiful patina. A mark from a coaster is visible in the photo.
