Do you know the vista alegre factory Vista alegre was founded in 1824 in ílhavo by josé ferreira pinto basto, originally from a family of entrepreneurs. Influenced by the success of the marinha grande glassworks, josé ferreira pinto basto decided to create a factory producing glass and ceramics in particular, in this region rich in clay, white sand and crystallized pebbles. In 1824, he obtained a patent from king john VI authorizing the operation of the factory. Augusto ferreira pinto basto, son of the founder, stayed at the sèvres ceramic factory in france, to better master the different techniques for manufacturing ceramic and porcelain pieces. In 1832, the knowledge acquired allowed him to discover significant kaolin deposits north of ilhavo. Until the end of the 18th century, portugal had no porcelain manufacturing industry and was a major importer of the material from china.
