Beautiful and rare japanese bowl entirely covered with japanese lacquer called kara-nuri. Original by its large size and thickness, solid wood with a very thick and glossy hard lacquered finish. This rice bowl is a splendor and a perfect example of japanese luxury craftsmanship. This large, highly decorative bowl will delight any collector of japanese lacquer or tableware. The kara-nuri technique: Kara-nuri is the most represented style of tsugaru nuri and has the longest history. Kara-nuri is characterized by speckled spots made using a special paddle knife with multiple circular holes. The lacquer is applied using this special tool, dried and then polished, a process that is repeated many times. The number of steps in making a piece of tsugaru nuri is 48 (just that). Each object is unique due to the complex and time-consuming nature of its manufacture. This uniqueness is one of the most appreciated features of tsugaru nuri. The word "kara" from kara-nuri means something unique and exceptional in japanese. Dimensions approx. H: 8 cm. Aperture: diameter: 18cm. Base: diameter: 10 cm. Weight: 600 grams. Condition: Vintage bowl of the second half of the twentieth in very good condition, some micro scratches especially inside and two small chips of lacquer also inside at the bottom of the lacquer bowl little visible thanks to the pattern. The price takes into account small defects.
