Hemi – Model 3B – Table/Desk Lamp, Sweden, 1960s

There is a particular pleasure in a lamp that reveals itself gradually. At first glance this is a confident, cheerful desk lamp in a rich warm orange — the kind of colour that defined the optimistic interiors of the 1960s and early 1970s and has lost none of its appeal since. Look closer, and the details begin to emerge: a fine brass ring edging the base, brass collars at the top and bottom of the stem, and a fully flexible brass gooseneck arm that connects stem to shade with a satisfying precision. None of it is showy. All of it is considered.The shade itself has a quietly distinctive shape — a slightly waisted bell form with a row of neat rectangular slot perforations just below the rim, allowing a whisper of warm light to escape upward when the lamp is lit. The fourth photograph shows exactly the quality of light this lamp produces — directional, warm, and pooled beautifully on the surface below.The base is stamped on the underside with “MADE IN SWEDEN”, “HEMI-3B” and the Swedish “S” electrical safety certification mark — confirming both its origin and its quality credentials.Hemi was a Swedish lighting manufacturer active during the 1960s and 1970s, producing well-constructed domestic lamps with the clean, material-conscious sensibility that characterises the best Swedish design of the period.The lamp is in really good vintage condition with only minor wear consistent with its age.
