At the age of 27 kalff wrote a letter to anton philips, the president of philips & co., stating that he felt the company's advertising could be improved. Shortly after he was hired and a year later he became in charge of the commercial and artistic propaganda departments. With his designs for posters and packaging, kalff rapidly modernized the image of philips. Five year later he started a new department for light consultancy and became responsible for the lighting of the world exhibitions in barcelona, (and later also antwerp, brussels and paris). Besides the philips logo he also designed other famous advertising posters (calvé, ptt, holland radio, …), book covers, desklamps and even a few buildings. After world war II he became art director at philips and worked together with le corbusier and the componist edgar varèse. After his retirement in 1960 he stayed active as advisor for philips and was involved in the execution of the evoluon building in eindhoven. The shape of this building can be recognized in many lamps he designed. Louis kalff past away in 1976. A vintage & timeless designer desklamp that looks good in every interior.
