A beautiful and very rare orange and dark brown "Fat Lava" vase featuring a central opening; made of polychrome glazed earthenware by Walter Gerhards KG (West Germany) in the late 1950s or early 1960s. Walter Gerhards KG was founded in 1957 (and registered in 1959) in Ransbach-Baumbach by Walter Gerhards and his wife, Elfriede Gerhards. Gerhards vases are highly sought after by collectors and enthusiasts of West German ceramics worldwide.
