Description
Magnificent oil on wooden panel signed c.brun, dating from the 1890s/1900s. It is a landscape representing the canal of a small village in the south of france, probably martigues where the artist stayed. Clément hyacinthe joseph brun, born in avignon on september 11, 1865, where he died on march 11, 1920, is a provencal master of painting. He is the founder of the “group of thirteen” which was at the origin of the renaissance of avignon painting at the beginning of the 20th century. In 1913, he won a silver medal at the salon of french artists with his painting "the earthenware mender". The work of light and shadow is superbly well done on this landscape. The colors are truly magical: the reflections on the water of the warm-colored buildings seem truer than life, the browns bring intense depth. You might think it's a view of venice. Good general condition, note: some paint missing around the edges of the panel, probably on the site of an old frame. The varnish has yellowed a little on the sky part, it will need professional cleaning to restore all the beauty of its colors! Dimensions: 33 cm high / 24 cm long. Weight: 300 grams. This french landscape will look magnificent in the living room of a country house or a beautiful apartment! It is an old painting, it contains traces of time and imperfections which make it a unique piece with a story!.
